If you're into comic books or animation, check out this podcast I did for "The Big Pull". I talk about my experiences trying to break into the industry, not to mention working on Avatar, Clone Wars, and Green Lantern.
I too wrote to Disney as a wee lad- they bombed me with a whole bunch of fun stuff. Then my sister could draw better than I could, so I scratched that route.
Just listened to the section with your interview (well, until they started dropping all the f-bombs), and... you helped do Pajama Sam?! That was one of my favorite games, when I was younger. The only Pajama Sam I played, as we didn't own the others.
I wish that more time had been spent on Avatar, but I really enjoyed listening to how you broke in to animation, and how you go about your work. Gave me some things to think about.
Listening to it right now. I'm applying to art schools next year for animation, and this is really interesting. Quick question - would you still recommend Cal Arts for 2d animation? I'm planning on applying to RISD, but I've heard really good stuff about Cal Arts [and it is the Disney school].
The podcast is really fun to listen to! Loved hearing you guys talk about work in such a realistic sense. Thanks!
I still believe CalArts is one of the best colleges in the country for animation. Probably my biggest warning is that it's also one of the most expensive. I have friends who are still paying their student loans for that place. So in that regard I may have dodged a bullet by never getting accepted.
I know a few people who ended up going to Cal State Fullerton instead and are doing quite nicely for themselves - See: Justin Ridge and Greg Rankin.
Thank you for showing this! Going to college for animation, it's good to hear the professionals talk about what's going on, and it's extra good to hear info about breaking into the industry. Thanks again!
Fun interview, G-.

Will be cool to hear about your adventures!
